Director of Business Development

Reporting to: COO

We are seeking a director of business development with exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills, who operates with a long-term vision and integrity. You will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating sales, marketing and business development functions for the IndustrialML platform, both over an aggressive timeframe in 2020 and keeping in mind the best avenues for long-term growth. You can expect to work on identifying target markets, and target customers and value chain partners within those markets; you will also be responsible for developing market requirements documentation and coordinating with the engineering team on product requirements. On the marketing side, you will manage marketing strategy and coordinate all team members and/or consulting completing marketing activities. Finally, you will oversee sales work including communication and negotiation of agreements with targets; management of files and contacts; and growth of the sales organization. All of these efforts will require you to interface regularly with prospects and customers at factories.

You will, at this early stage, need to be hands-on with producing content and performing day-to-day operations. This may include but is not limited to writing market requirements documents, website content, press releases, or sales spec sheets; and performing necessary procurement, travel arrangement, etc. As the company grows, you must be capable of shifting your focus to a more strategic role. Ideal candidates will also display a keen interest in international trends in manufacturing, enterprise SaaS and leadership, and have demonstrated success in building business development organizations in B2B from an early stage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

MANAGEMENT:

  • Implement best practice strategies to understand and communicate business development requirements, in tandem with all key stakeholders
  • Develop and present sales, marketing and business development requirements, budgets and plans regularly
  • Manage on-site and remote staff including hiring, training, coaching, mentorship, professional development, and performance management
  • Support and help refine business objectives by establishing sales and marketing goals and strategies, and coordinating with company management
  • Promote a strong culture consistent with the company's core values as the team grows
  • Manage (and contribute to) team collaboration and documentation tools

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, SALES, MARKETING:

  • Identify specific target markets, customers and value chain partners for the IndustrialML software platform
  • Develop market requirements documents in coordination with company management and the engineering team, for all products under consideration for IndustrialML
  • Ensure aggressive, reasonable targets to ensure a positive customer experience
  • Pursue, negotiate and complete deals, both beta and for established products, with new manufacturing customers
    • Train future sales team to sell established products
  • Develop marketing strategy to attract and retain clients, including trade show planning, engagement with consultants, and all relevant inbound and outbound strategies
  • Create or coordinate creation of marketing content including the company website, blogs, press releases, trade show materials, etc.
  • Constant exploration and assessments of market trends and new growth opportunities

Desired Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in sales, marketing and business development for organizations selling to manufacturers
    • Enterprise software preferred
  • 2+ years experience building and managing a business development team
  • 2+ years of demonstrated success working in cross-functional environments between technical, business and operations staff
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or business administration; MBA is a plus
    • Sufficient relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degrees
  • 2+ years working with startups
